What is Deafmetal?

DEAFMETAL® is an award-winning jewelry innovation for hearing aid users. Deafmetal transforms hearing aids into personalized and designer jewelry.

Personalizing design in hearing aids significantly improves self-image and self-confidence of hearing aid users. Hearing aid stigma is one of the major problems Deafmetal solves: Deafmetal changes the lifestyle of hearing aids users by offering designs that allow hearing aids to augment an individual’s personal style. Deafmetal designs hearing aid jewelry collections for women, men, and children.

Deafmetal also shifts the focus from the medical device and the disability to the person. It provides a much needed point of conversation entry – hearing people often avoid conversation with a hearing aid user but cannot stop themselves from commenting when they notice, “cool earrings!” Such a seemingly small conversation entry breaks through social barriers that often keep hearing aid users isolated.

The innovation of the Deafmetal collection is the Holster that surrounds the hearing device. That is the core of Deafmetal and the key to the personalized accessory.

You can't download Deafmetal into your phone. It can't make any playlists nor take you to the moon, but it sure as hell can tune up your hearing aids.

Deafmetal Community

Because together we shout louder.

Follow Us:

Deafmetal has an audience all around the world. Our mission is to reach all 480 million hard of hearing people
and the ones living in the danger zone of hearing loss - yes, you!

Deafmetal Community is our tool to help change attitude against hearing aid stigma and also prevent hearing loss, which is increasing all the time. Hearing loss is not just a problem of old people anymore. Younger and younger people are listening to music with earphones, which has a big effect on hearing.

WHO (World Health Organization) estimates hearing loss will grow to 900M in the next thirty years. Aging and noise pollution play the main roles in hearing loss. Deafmetal advocates for wiser hearing habits by collaborating with musicians, bands, and artists. They are the right influencers to teach audiences about hearing damage.

We are collaborating with hearing & audiology associations. Deafmetal is friends with Kuuloliitto ry (Hearing Association of Finland), Suomen Audionomiyhdistys (Audiology Association of Finland) and
the Finnish Musicians Association (Muusikkojen liitto).

Our Story

The DEAFMETAL® inspiration was a recent result of the designer and inventor Jenni Ahtiainen being personally diagnosed with progressive hearing loss. The spark that began the development of the Deafmetal Collection was based on her personal need for a Hearing Aid. She's been working as an accessory designer for 12 years for the accessory brand she developed called gTie. She started using her first hearing aid in August 2018 and within a week had created a kind of a holster around her hearing aids and earrings that reflected to her personal style. She posted a picture of her new product to gTie customers. The word spread around within the hearing impaired community of Finland so fast that a week later the pictured had been viewed more than 220,000 times. This was a clear sign that this product had unique appeal.
